A few decades ago, scientists made an interesting and controversial discovery. They analyzed the behavior of hundreds of people and finally determined that there is a certain category of people who are prone to gambling and also have a weak will. Of course, it’s joyful to play at for a couple of hours per week. But what if you cannot keep gambling?

The term was officially introduced for the disease in 1980. This disease, by the way, is comparable to drug addiction, as well as to alcohol addiction.

This sometimes becomes an obsession for them, forcing them to bet again and again. This is where sociologists have already taken up research, believing that about one percent of the world’s population suffers from gambling addiction.

In general, this problem is quite serious, so it is treated accordingly all over the world. For example, in the U.S. there is even a society of anonymous gamblers, by analogy with Alcoholics Anonymous. In European countries, the state is engaged in treatment of gambling addiction.

Germany has been the most significant success in this matter. There are several special programs with which addicted players are treated and rehabilitated, and with which they conduct explanatory work.

There are several ways to identify gambling addiction:

  • A person tries to hide the information that he does not mind playing for money.
  • He is constantly lying, making up incredible excuses and stories.
  • Pursues the goal to break a huge score and thereby surprise others.
  • The gambler is afraid to admit his problem to his family, as he himself does not fully understand the power of attraction to the gambling business.
  • A person is not able to control the influence of the game on his own. He is able to lose every last penny and leave the casino with a feeling of satisfaction.
  • Players are trying by all means to find the money to once again visit the gambling establishment and go to a parallel world of reality.

How to Get Rid of an Addiction

Players, like absolutely other patients, are individuals. You can’t take a one-size-fits-all approach and follow the unvarnished truths in textbooks.

It is important to find your own key to the problem and try to influence the patient without aggression. Awareness of your addiction will help you overcome the problem. If the person is willing to talk about the problem on their own, then help from a qualified therapist is a wonderful solution.
